The mission
Katya Vineyards is a full-service winery based in Morriston, FL, with a wine bar and gourmet restaurant in downtown Ocala, FL.
The Sokol family came to me wanting a more artistic approach to branding and print presentations on their wine bottles. We began with a series of three bottles showcasing their unique family heritage and family name. Utilizing the Sokol (surname) in Slavic, which means falcon, we created a unique group of wines depicting the falcon. When viewed separately, each bottle is its own piece of art, but the three bottles create a single falcon image.
After completing these initial designs we began working on several others for premium wines, classic wines, wine jelly, bottles of vinegar, and champagne.
Behind the scenes
Working with the Sokol family was a pleasure to bring their visions to life. They began their journey as a local, family-owned vineyard and became recognized as one of the best fine dining establishments in North Central Florida.
This was a special project for me as it allowed me to grow as a designer and push the boundaries of marrying traditional artwork with graphic design. We collaborated to bridge creativity with functional design to showcase the products in a truly exceptional and unique way. Each wine is a story about their heritage, family and flavor so each label had to reflect that.
Fun Fact
This was my first job designing product packaging of any kind!
I had designed print assets before but never had to work within the confines of product shape, size, and federal requirements. I loved the process and the challenges along the way, however. And establishing a good working relationship with the Sokols and the printer was key to perfecting the final results.
